It seems that Bob Ream Jr. was destined to drive sprint cars. Soon after he was born, his father Bob Sr. was wheeling a sprinter around Manzanita Speedway in 1971. Most weekends during Bob Jr.’s childhood were spent at Manzanita Speedway, Globe-Miami Speedway and Corona Raceway in the grandstands cheering on his father, "Big Bird." As the Ream's family interests changed, Bob Jr. began racing ATVs (quads) and eventually won the state 250cc Pro championship.
In 1991, renewed interest in sprint car racing gave rise to the Arizona Sprint Car Association (ASCA). At that time, local racing enthusiasts Art Betts and Dale Garrow purchased a used sprint car chassis and contacted Bob Ream Sr. hoping to find engine parts. They did not yet have a driver in mind for the car.
Because Bob Sr. wanted his son to race something “safer” than ATVs, he offered to provide not only an entire engine, but a driver for the new Betts/Garrow team. Thus, Bob Jr. gained his first sprint car seat at age 20, and rapidly won his first Main Event that rookie year at Tucson’s Raven Raceway in October, 1991.
Since then, the "Bullet" has earned more ASCA Main Event victories than any other driver. He dominated the 1998 season, winning a record 14 of 19 events along with the championship title. He has driven both non-winged and winged sprint cars with 360 and 410 cubic inch engines, on dirt and pavement. In addition to his home track, Manzanita Speedway, Bob has competed on more than 25 different race tracks including Terre Haute Action, Irwindale Speedway, Knoxville Raceway, and even the Autodrome Granby near Montreal, Canada. He has piloted sprint cars with SCRA, USAC, CRA, SCOA, WoO, URC, ASCA and ASCS, and at the time of this writing has 59 non-wing 360 sprint car victories.
Bob recently married his beautiful lady, Sarah. They were married in September 2011.
As a huge fan of sprint car racing, Bob feels exceptionally fortunate to also have the opportunity to participate. He is just happy to be at the race track, whether competing or watching. Bob has also won races in the "crew chief" capacity with Dave Darland and the late Jesse Hockett. Other past drivers hired by Ream include Shane Cottle, Rick Ziehl and Casey Shuman. Bob is very appreciative for the people who helped him get started, including Dan Smith & Dennis "Flash" Weidmann. Bob is also very thankful for the outstanding car owners who have provided such excellent equipment over the years, including Art Betts, Dale Garrow, Bob Smith, Bob Ream Sr., Richard Harvey Sr., Danny Pivavaroff, "Scats" Anfuso Jr., Reggie Taylor, Joey Moriarty, Charlie Fegan, Tim Beal, Fred Bryan, Chris McArthur, Michael Burkhart, Gordon Beeding, Bill Thompson, Jody Williams, the late Richard Blankenship, Calvin Martens, Tom Buch and more.
